Ildikó Kelemen: more than 50 years in diving

In addition to their excellent athletes, host Hungary can also be proud of their successful sport diplomats. One of them is Ildikó Kelemen, who has been active in diving in various roles for more than half a century.

‘I need to think carefully if I would like to tell you how many European Championships I have taken part in so far. As an athlete, I participated in six Europeans, I was a judge in 1997, and I have been member of the LEN technical committee since 1998. So it has been a long time in this sport for me, but I am still excited and motivated.’

Ildikó Kelemen admitted that this European Championships will be different from the previous ones, including the 2006 and 2010 editions also held in Budapest, since the coronavirus pandemic poses serious challenges for the participants. Last spring, everything was well prepared for the competitions, but due to the pandemic the organizers had to push the reboot button.

‘Despite all these difficulties, I think there will be some really good races in the Danube Arena. After more than a year, last week’s Tokyo World Cup was the first international competition in diving, and as we do not know whether there will be any more events until the Olympics, all the best athletes will take part in this Europeans. Diving has played a big role at every stage of my life. It was a huge experience to be the competition director of the 2017 World Aquatics Championships, also held in Hungary, and I hope I will have the energy even for the 2027 World Champs. Right now, however, I am doing my best to make sure that everything goes smoothly at this European Championships in the diving competitions.’

Hungarian Post greets the competitons of the 35th LEN European Championships in Hungary by issuing a unique stamp. A total of 50,000 copies have been made in ANY Security Printing Company, based on the designs of graphic Krisztián Daniel. It can be purchased at the so called ‘first-day’ post offices, at Filaposta, at the philatelic staff corps, at certain post offices and on www.posta.hu as well.

On this special stamp we can see the dynamism of a swimmer who unites with water. On the envelope the different disciplines of the European Championships and the pictograms depicting them in combination with the logos can be found. The main element of the stamp is the logo of the Europeans, which show the gestures of the swimmers, the year 2020 (which was the original date of the event), the international vehicle registration code of Hungary (H) and the chemical formula of water (H2O). The logo also appears in different colors on the stamp and on the envelope, so in addition to the basic blue color, you can also discover the red, white and green colors of the Hungarian national flag.

Online company Kifli.hu has been asked by the Hungarian Swimming Federation to provide a solution for food delivery within the bubble system of the European Championships. With the help of Kifli.hu, which is part of the Rohlik Group, the athletes have the opportunity to order fresh food and other quality products from local farmers and producers directly to their hotel during the competition.

All participants can place an order online on the website or via a smartphone app and a dedicated staff at the customer service will handle the athletes’ requests. The innovative online grocery delivery service provides two delivery times per day to all seven official hotels. Couriers work in a ‘one-hour window’ to ensure that the order is taken over and the food is not degraded at the reception.

The services of Kifli.hu have been designed the way that they can provide the best quality products to the competitors in comfortable and safe conditions. All payments occur online before delivery to avoid cash, couriers are equipped with gloves and masks, and they make sure strict hygienic rules are followed. Deliveries are free of charge and fully contactless.
